PMMA Supplier ROHM Expands US Production Capacity

Material supplier R ö hm announced today that it has expanded its production capacity at its Wallingford factory in Connecticut. The company is headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany and has made modifications and redeployed the existing production line at the Wallingford factory to accelerate delivery times and meet the growing global demand for its polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) products. ROHM's PMMA products are sold under the name Plexiglas in Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, and Australia, and under the registered trademark Acrylic Stone in the Americas. In 1933, Otto R ö hm, co-founder of the company, played an important role in the development of PMMA. The company remains the only global manufacturer of MMA and PMMA in Asia, Europe, and North America, including downstream composites. The Wallingford factory, a key production base for medical grade materials, has over 50 workers and operates multiple production lines for special PMMA molding compounds. It is the main production base of Cyrolite, a high-quality, transparent acrylic based plastic suitable for medical applications. The demand from the automotive industry has prompted the expansion of the German market. Earlier in February this year, ROHM also expanded the production capacity of Plexiglas molding compounds at its factory in Worms, Germany, which is the company's largest factory. According to the company, the growing demand, especially from the automotive industry, requires expansion. Rom has also built a mixed martial arts production factory in Bay, Texas, which is scheduled to be completed this year. ROHM's PMMA has a 90 year history in the market and is highly suitable for applications that require critical requirements for durability, weather resistance, UV linearity, color fastness, brightness and transparency, as well as hardness and scratch resistance.
